“Essence of Rakshabandhan lies in Safety, Responsibilities and Duties”

“Rakshabandhan” is great and auspicious festival for all, celebrated all across India and even outside India. Generally, we see this Festival as the celebration for brothers and sisters which is of course true. Sisters tie “Rakhi” on wrist of their brothers and offer sweets; brothers ensure their sisters safety, happiness and many more in return. Our sisters go to border to tie “Rakhis” to brave soldiers and all our security personal. This is the most important significance of the festival for all Indians.
Let us see broader significance of the festival. Can we not tie “Rakhi” on our wrist that guarantees safety of all; respect to all; love to all; honest duties and responsibilities to oneself and the whole nation. In simple words, it can be explained as follows:
  • Parents can Tie a Rakhi: Parents can tie Rakhi, a bond of love, care, affection, Good human values to their children. Parents have to ensure proper nurturing of values to the children; respecting nature and environment; and most importantly NOT to impose their dreams to the children. There is nothing wrong in guiding and motivating the children about their career prospective but the same should be expected strongly. Let the children be given freedom what they want to be of their own interest. The Rakhi should remind the children always about what they have learned from their parents about honesty and being truth towards everyone including self, parents, family and the great nation as well.
  • Teachers can Tie a Rakhi: Teachers can tie Rakhi to their students and learners as a bond of lifelong learning, life building and character making education; respect for nature, environment; parents, teachers, the country and mankind. Teachers can promise their students they would never leave any stone unturned in putting the efforts in developing the required skill set and human values in students. The bond of Rakhi aims to inculcate not only the knowledge for livelihood but for service to one and all.
  • Students can Tie a Rakhi: Students are always future of any country, and therefore all students ought to tie Rakhi to their parents, teachers, senior citizens, and above all the great country India. This Rakhi will be like a bond of promise that they would respect all citizen, women, and all; love their parents and grandparents; take care about their parents; remember the teachings and lessons of their teachers always; hate corruption; be always true and honest to oneself; above all perform all duties and responsibilities personally as well as professionally.  Students should take resolution on the day of making their parents, teachers and India proud of them and working hard to make India, GREAT INDIA.
  • Every Citizen Can Tie a Rakhi: In fact, all of us should tie a Rakhi in the name of the country, the Great India and promise to the nation that we will never engage in any activities that hurts sentiments and respect of our teachers, parents and the nation. We should always protect our nature; hate corruption and corrupt practices; respect and love to all; believe in peace and happiness. Then this would be great regards and honor to the auspicious day, Rakshabandhan. This day and the Rakhi will always remind us about our responsibilities and duties.

Let us all pledge together to tie a Rakhi or get Rakhi tied for a greater cause and make this India as Mera Bharat! Naya Bharat!! Please do contribute in Nobel mission of Swami Vivekanand, Rebuild India as New India! Great India!! (Feedback at drgrsinha@ieee.org)
